What is Breast Cancer in Men? Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment Methods.

What is Breast cancer in men?

Breast cancer is mainly found in women, but men can get this cancer. However, most people do not realize that men have breast tissue and that they build breast cancer in men.

Breast cancer begins when cells in the breast start to grow out of control. These cells usually build a tumor that can often look on an x-ray or felt as a lump. However, the tumor is malignant if the cell can build into (invade) surrounding tissues or increase (metastasize) to distant parts of the body.

Male breast tissue

Until puberty, adults age people have a small amount of breast tissue consisting of a few ducts find under the nipple and areola (the area around the nipple). At puberty, a girl’s ovaries build female hormones, create breast ducts to increase and lobules to form at the ends of ducts. Even after puberty, boys or men generally have low levels of these hormones, and breast tissue does not increase much. Men’s breast tissue has a breast duct, but only a few amount if any lobules.

Where breast cancer begins

However, breast cancer may begin from different parts of the breast. Several breast cancers start in the ducts that carry milk to the nipple (ductal cancers). Similarly, some begin in the glands that make breast milk (lobular cancers). However, there are also kinds of breast cancer that begin in other kinds of breast cells, but these are less common.

However, it is also important that severe lumps are benign and not cancer (malignant). Benign breast tumors are abnormal increases, but they do not increase outside of the breast and they are not life-threatening.

Which men are likely to get breast cancer?

Breast cancer is rare for a man under age 35. Your chance of getting breast cancer increase up with your age. However, several breast cancers in men happen between ages 60 and 70. Other things that increase the odds for male breast cancer may include:-

  • Breast cancer in a near female relative
  • History of radiation showing off the chest
  • Enlarged breasts which may be due to drug or hormone treatments, some infections, or poisons
  • Taking estrogen
  • A rare genetic situation is known as Klinefelter’s syndrome
  • Various liver diseases, called cirrhosis
  • Obesity

Symptoms

However, breast cancer symptoms in men are similar to those in women. Severe male breast cancers are treating when a man finds a lump on his chest. But men tend to delay going to the health consultant until they have more severe symptoms, such as bleeding from the nipple. By that point, cancer may have increased.

Diagnosis and treatments

The same options that are taken to diagnose breast cancer in women are used in men: physical tests, mammography, and biopsies. Possible treatments for men and women are normally the same. Severe men benefit from a combination of treatments, including:-

  • Surgery: The typical cure treatment for men is a mastectomy, in which your whole breast is separated. Breast-conserving surgery in which only the tumor is used out is sometimes done. Often, the physician also takes out one or more lymph nodes to look if cancer has increased.
  • Radiation therapy: You may have cure treatment with the help of radioactive rays or particles after surgery. This therapy can support kill off any cancer cells. If the cancer is inoperable, radiation therapy may be your major treatment option.
  • Chemotherapy: With the help of chemotherapy, you will be given drugs through the mouth or by injection to remove the cancer cells. For men with modern cancer or cancer that has increased to other parts of the body, chemotherapy may be the primary treatment.
  • Hormone therapy: However, some kinds of breast cancer need certain hormones to grow. This therapy destroys the effects of these hormones, removing cancer’s growth. Hormone therapy often works better in men than in women because about 90% of men’s cancers are hormone receptor therapy. Sometimes, separating these tests decreases the amount of certain male hormones in the system. Breast cancer men should never use testosterone because it causes breast cancer cells to increase. However, you may have hormone therapy behind the surgery to decrease the risk of cancer coming back.
  • Targeting therapy: However, some men have a severe protein that makes cancer spread quickly. Trastuzumab is one of the medication drugs that has been accepting to treat breast cancer that has increase to other parts of the body. However, to remove this protein from making cancer cells increase. It may also spread your immune system, giving it more power to fight cancer.
