Multiple reports say that rapper Lil Tjay was shot early Wednesday morning outside a shopping center in New Jersey. He was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. According to TMZ, the rapper had emergency surgery after the incident and is healing.

Officers from the Edgewater Police Department responded to a shooting at The Promenade in Edgewater at 12:08 a.m. and discovered a 22-year-old victim with gunshot wounds, according to a news statement from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (BCPO).

The release said that a 22-year-old man was found with a single gunshot wound at an Exxon gas station nearby, and both people were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The BCPO said later that one of the people in the hospital had gone from being in critical to stable condition, and the other was in good condition with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Officials didn’t give the names of either person, but TMZ and WABC said that one of the victims was Lil Tjay (whose real name is Tione Merritt). It’s still not clear why both victims were said to be 22 years old, or if Tjay is the victim in stable or good condition.

The BCPO and the Edgewater Police Department looked into the shooting and found that it “does not appear to be random,” the BCPO said on Twitter.

They, who was born in the Bronx, got famous by putting his music on SoundCloud. In 2019, Columbia Records put out his first studio album, True 2 Myself. More than 523 million people have listened to his song “F.N.” on Spotify, and he has more than 7 million followers on Instagram. They will also be playing at this year’s Rolling Loud music festival, which will be held in Queens, New York, from Sept. 23 to 25.

He said in April that a new EP named Strictly4MyFans will be released shortly.

“This summer, I guarantee I’ll be back on my s—,” he promised supporters on Twitter. “No more one song every five months [and] s— we done with that we moving up [and] I’m coming for what I deserve.”As word of the incident spread, celebrities such as The Kid Laroi and French Montana expressed their support on social media.
