Grass-fed whey proteins

Milk is essential for growth and as a calcium supplement. But many people have started giving up drinking milk for various reasons. One of them is the fact of hormones administered to cows that provide the milk. But now companies claim of having produced milk fir cows who are exclusively fed grass. The whey obtained from such milk is called grass-fed whey. It supposedly has mote health benefits. Let us go through them.

Concerns of regular cow’s milk

Increasingly people are giving up drinking cow’s milk and turning into vegans. Even lacto-vegetarians are becoming fully vegans. This is because of the fact that new revelations state that cows who are milked are given hormones either in injectable or via food. These hormones get secreted into the milk of these cows and reach the humans who consume this milk. And these hormones could be harmful for the milk consumers. Besides, whey and casein proteins obtained from such milk are also contaminated. Therefore, people stopped even consuming such whey and casein though they are otherwise healthy.

Hence, now some companies have come out with grass-fed whey and casein proteins. These are obtained from milk of cows fed only grass and given no hormones for increasing milk production. These should be relatively safe and better.

Health and grass-fed whey

The nutritional value of grass-fed whey is higher. It has a greater level of vitamin E. Additionally, CLA, beta carotene and iron in it is higher than those in regular milk. This whey proteins can help in the prevention of heart diseases because of their higher content of MUFA and PUFA. Similarly, it has a lowered ratio of omega 6 to omega 3. This too benefits the heart. It is free of the hormones such as GMO, rBGH, and rBST.

Experts attributed diseases such as PCOD to consumption of such milk from cows injected with the hormones. Thus, grass-fed whey proteins would be safe in this matter. It could sade people who get this disease from drinking contaminated milk and whey proteins. The milk producers heat the regular milk to a high temperature for pasteurization. This kills the bacteria but the enzymes in milk are also destroyed. The taste of milk also changes. But grass-fed milk is pasteurized at a lower temperature. Some even cold-press it. This preserves its taste and keeps the enzymes intact.

Types of grass-fed whey proteins

There are different types of grass-fed whey proteins. When the raw product is unprocessed and used to make a concentrate it is raw grass-fed whey protein. This is hard to digest. The second type is regular or concentrate grass-fed whey proteins. Here the grass-fed whey proteins are mildly processed.
